steering wheel shaking at high speeds
Not sure if this is in the right section but,

I've just had an alignment and my tires ballanced after my engine swap, my steering wheel only shakes sometimes at high speeds (65+mph),
.
I've noticed it has a little bit to do with the pavement type (ie. Roads paved within the last year it shakes more), when I grip the steering wheel really hard it stops a lot of it but the shaking is still there,
.
I've had the shop check the ballance 2 times now, the boots on my ball joints and tie rod ends are just starting to crack, but other than that there is no play, none of the rims are bent,
.
I have no idea what else to look for, any ideas?
.
I have a trip up to PA and a trip down to the keys coming up in the next month and I need to get this fixed soon, and I drive 900 miles a week now as it is and its getting annoying

I think most balancers are only good up to 55. Try swapping wheels front to back

how old are your tires?

did they by any chance check road/radial force variation?

your tires might be bad

edit: iirc the max is 26 lbs ...any more than that and your tires will start to shake, even when properly balanced

Check for worn balljoints or tie rods?

did you recently slam on the brakes harder then fuk? if so ... one tire in the front is balder on one spot then the rest of the tire.. probably passenger side. could be drivers

Never heard of that before where can I get that done/\
.
I had them ballanced at sams club, they were rotated both times I went in to have them recheck the ballance, the tires are only 4 months old and have about 10000-20000 miles left on them,
.
Like I said above the boots on the ball joints and tie rod ends are cracked but there is no play in them, but the body does have over 200,000 miles on it and they look original
.
There are no flat spots in any of the tires,
.
this has been happening since I changed the engine out

if they're directional tires, check to make sure the tread patterns are correctly oriented.

Possibly axle wobble, or loose axle nut?
