Stay de for auto cross you just gotta stay in the right gear at all times in the perfect powerband. Then you just gotta worry about staying smooth through the turns

If your running in an open class id go turbo and be a little competive, on another note a 200whp VE won't be hard at all, couple boltons cams and a weight reduction and your set

A few guys hear have track specific cars let one of them chime in...

our track specific car has a NA sr20 YET currently holds 6 NASA Time Trial records at various tracks in TTF (and even 1 in TTE)

...need I say more?

Listen to people who has road racing experiences.. N/A is better and at most cases faster too. I would start with DE or swap VE there, depends on your budget. Both engines are great.

No boost, no problem.

Dunlop Star Specs are the hot AX tire right now around here.

Also go with 5 or 6 pt harness....

Leave motor alone and put money into suspension to start with and go from there.

Start with safety, tires, suspension, cooling system. See how you do, then judge how much power you need to beat them.

Just FYI, I was thinking of putting one of my SERs(full bolt on DE) to a track car, but the ITA class I wanted to run wouldn't alow me to run cams. If I wanted to run the cams it would have put me up in class and the car(I don't think) would have been as competive. Hence the VE with bolt ons male better power than the DE

Thanks for all of the input guys. I'm still in the process of getting the car running and street worthy again. Hopefully if the weather is decent this weekend I can paint the car as well as swap in a new fuel filter. I'll try to get some pics up pretty soon.

Dunlop Star Specs are our RAIN race tires for our g20 track rat fWIW (fantastic rain tire MUCH cheaper than hoosier rain tires ) ..and we drive to/from the track on these tires as well :-)

Since you already have a DE that works, just start out with that and see what needs improvement. Run "test and tune" events or HPDE days to get to know your car better. 30 minutes on a road course is a bit different from 1 minute on an auto-x course. I have done a couple of test and tune events in my n/a DE and the lack of passing power on the straights can be a bit annoying (especially if a car in front is quite a bit slower in the corners but as fast on the straight), but it is better to learn at low power and move up as your experience grows. And if, after a couple of events, you cook the DE and need a new engine, you aren't out anything and you can better assess what would work best for your favorite road course. Btw, the 15" RPF1s won't clear the 11" fastbrakes kit.
