Lets Talk 6 Speed Flywheel
I am tired of talking about 6 speed flywheel, because everyone has these bright ideas on how to do it and they just keep f$%king up a simple thing. I will show you all how simple this is, and you all will ask yourself why the hell this thing is being made properly.
When people make aluminum flywheels for cars, they make then to the same specifications of the factory flywheel, bolts up with no issues ready to go. Drop on a factory clutch or an aftermarket clutch and role out.
For some damn reason no one wants to make the flywheel the way it should be made and they all come up with these bright ideas.
Lets start off with JWT. I contacted JWT about making these flywheels about 4 years ago. They made the flywheel and guess what instead of making it for the original 225MM clutch they made it for the 250mm 300zx TT clutch. I get the first flywheel from JWT and guess what it has ( 9 ) flywheel bolt holes. WHAT THE F%$K, how the hell is this going to bolt up, did no one look at this thing before shipping it. So, I send it back and 3 months later I get the same 250mm flywheel with 8 flywheel bolt holes so now it bolts to the crank. Now its time to bolt the trans up to the cutch. The flywheel will not clear the bell housing by the starter, then we grind off the bellhousing for it to clear. Now you can see right into the trans from the top so it slides on and the presure plate touches the back of the trans. When you shell out this type of money for a part you would think you can get it made right.
Let me ask this, whats so hard about making the flywheel just like the original one as far as dimensions. Then it will fiit in the trans, but no mutha fackers want to reinvent the wheel.
So, JWT tells me, well they made it 250 because the 250mm flywheel fits on the spec v, so they figured it would fit in the 20V 6 speed, NOT. Now here is where this gets funny, previous to this I sold JWT 3 6 speed 20V transmissions, you would think they would have test fitted it before sending it about after making this bright idea.
Next, another company jumps in to make this flywheel and what do they do. They make the flywheel with the 215mm size flywheel 1/4 thinner. Why you ask, they say to save on weight.
Now lets think about this for one second. A factory SR20DE flywheel is about 20 pounds. The 20V flywheel is about 30 pounds. The average SR20DE aluminum flywheel is 10 pounds. So if this 20V flywheel was made to specs in aluminum it would be about 13-15 pounds. Can you imagine 13-15 pounds being to heavy, for NA or Turbo. Well I was told it will be to heavy for NA. Please
We are putting this damn flywheel on 220-300 WHP NA SR20VEs, the xtra 3-5 pounds will not do a damn thing.
So every time a flywheel is being made there is some bull crap that has to be made, special orders or modified. You either got to shave a 20V bellhousing, put a flywheel from JWT on a lathe to make it fit, use an adapter plate, shave a QR bellhousing to fit an adapter plate, then buy an adapter plate
I ask WHY WHY WHY!!!!!!!
Let me tell you all this. A 20V flywheel is 225mm, just like a S13-S14 KA24 flywheel. There are many guys running this same size flywheel making 600-700 HP on this size clutch. The KA24DE shares the same size clutch splins shaft as the 20V. What does this mean, the KA24DE presure palte and disc is a shelf part for this 6 speed trans, if someone would just make the damn flywheel as is, it would bolt up and we would role out.
In conclusion
Can someone please step up to the plate and make the flywheel in aluminum with the dimenssions of the stock flywheel so we can just move on. Whats so damn hard.
I can give my reasons as to why they will not, can we say buy more sh!t from us.
