Thread: Blowing oil out the dip stick only when in higher boost. Bad headgasket?

Please read this carefully. OK so recently while I was on the highway doing a high boost run. My car started to smoke like hell. I thought I blew the motor. But it ran fine after I let off. But still smoked. When I pulled over and popped the hood to see what was going on oil was EVERYwhere in the bay. At first I thought it was my oil feed line. But even on a cold start up with 50plus psi it isnt leaking a drop. Then I noticed my oil dipstick was wet along with the spray pattern pointing to the dipstick hole.

Anyway the car runs fine and will build boost and all that. Idles well and everything. Doesnt get hot or anything. Vacuum is also good. Everything on the car has been the same for over 3 years. Vacuum lines are good and routed right and all. But when I hit boost (like anything over 12psi) oil blows out of the Dipstick everywhere in the bay. Obviously somehow the crankcase is getting pressurized. Could it be a bad head gasket or could it be a ring? Head lifting? All of those are good possibilities in my head. But out of all of them 2 of the three at least will make the car run like ****.

Havent done a compression test yet. But I will as soon as I have time and its not raining. But anyone had this happen to them?

Check your vent tube coming out of your VC to your intake line (the large one, top right corner as you look at it from the front). If it's kinked or blocked the internal pressure will vent through your dip stick opening, carrying oil...and your dipstick with it. I lost my Bluebird dipstick this way.

BTW, if anyone has a spare they want to sell, please let me know. A spec ones are longer.

check the pcv valve. A bad valve causes this.

get the compresssion test done

You're on the right track suspecting the head gasket or rings. It could be normal blow-by however, and your crank case ventilation system is just not flowing enough air for some reason. (Kinked hose mentioned above or just too small of hose to begin with or restrictive catch can.)
Compression test and when if it checks out then time for a better flowing ventilation system.

It might just be faster to pull the head and look

Or just swap in a VE and tap the block Your thinking like me!

But Ive literally been driving the car around for the last two days going back and forth to work and it drives just fine. I can even hit boost without it smoking once of or twice. But then itll smoke.

Also the car doesnt blow any smoke out the exhuast or anything. The one thing that does kinda say something though is that sometimes the car wont idle. It searches for idle. Also when I go to start it up it take about one more turn over then normal for it to start like it has to build compression

Ill check the lines monday. But I doubt any are clogged.
