Thread: Have any of you had luck re welding headers?

I have a stillen header on my b13 and it is starting to crack. I was wondering if any of you have had luck re welding them? If you have to re do it every 6 months I think I'll just get the ssac one or something.

It is coated. I'm guessing I would need to clean the coating off the weld and re do it.

It needs a new gasket where the 2 peices meet, does anyone know where I might be able to find one?

yes you can reweld it .. if it cracks again depends on the person welding and type of welder used.

get it in copper.

Save yourself the headache and order a new header off eBay. They cost like $10 more than the copper gasket from Summit.

what is the name of the gasket? I can't find anything that looks similar to what's on there

I'm sure once I find out what they're called I can find something real cheap on ebay. I can get it welded for free or almost free.

I've always been partial to buying gasket sheets, and making my own. Copper, SS, even used that ceramapro stuff from felpro.

Sure makes it easier than trying to track down an odd gasket.

no mannn no ebay header. You got yourself a good header just get it welded up. In tough times I just use hight temp RTV. My hotshot header on my car now did not come with the secoond gasket so I spread Hight temp RTV around both sides to be mated, let it dry just a little but still sticky, then bolted the two piece together with no problem. I have done it plenty of times with no leaks at all. I will never do it on the block though.

i have a hotshot gen 5 header and it's been welded twice now. The previous owner had it fixed long before i got the car, then i had it rewelded when i purchased the car. its held up nicely for 2 years now

Stillen header made little to no power in the last shoot out I read. Its not what I would call a good header.

It still has the stock exhaust, hell this car even has the original windshield. Amazing nothing has smashed it in 150k miles. I'm not worried about a couple horsepower.
