As far as I am concerned, the only thing an AutoZone alternator is good for is teaching you how to change your alternator. Maybe their starters are better, but I would be cautious.

i couldnt have said it better....i went thru 3 ina year...pulleys were different sizes too...i can change one out in like 15min...

OP-i have a OEM starter if youd like...50 shipped

I have had a autozone starter in my b14 for 3 years with no problems. I did have a problem with a starter I purchased for another car. They did swap it with no questions asked though. You can't lose going with Autozone.

Aftermarket starters and alternators are JUNK. I would rather buy a used factory one than waste my money on anything else. If you look at the internals, there is a difference. For one, look for copper in the factory one and aluminum in the aftermarket one. I have purchased plenty of aftermarket starters and alternators and they are totally hit and miss. Even if they do exchange it for another one, I don't want to waste my time doing it twice. But that's just me.

I put an AZ starter on the 97 SE-R in 2003 - 2004
The SR20 has two different starters, the long nose and short nose.
the short nose has a reputation for giving problems, and sure enough I got a short nose, put it on ( daughter had car then ) and it lasted 6 months.
Swapped it out, got a long nose this time ( no choice, local AZ only kept one in stock,)
This lasted till the car was totaled, maybe 6 yrs ??

BTW the Alt went just before the starter problems, both around car being 6 yrs old, and it was an AZ, good till he end !!! probably close to 7 yrs.

Re: the comments about the domestic parts, I re-built the GM Alt and starters my self because the re-builds and original parts are so bad. By replacing only the weak part that failed got me much better part !!!

Same here. Probably the only thing I'll ever get there. Their starters seem to have very little issues. I've never had a problem with any of the starters for any of the cars I've bought one from AZ for.

For starters they're good, but thats it. I wouldn't touch them with a 10ft pole for anything else.

Remanufacturing | Motorcar Parts of America

They rebuild the starters and alternators for import cars at autozone.

I don't know when you guys have purchased your reman parts, but if it has been in the last 5 yrs, this company has been making them.

Remy international (Delco/Remy) does all the domestic stuff. I am kinda wary of some of that stuff.

Anyway, Napa has the same suppliers iirc for their reman parts as autozone does. At least the domestic stuff anyway.
