Loose dipstick
So I was checking the oil on a DE and the tube that the dipstick goes in is loose
So loose,I could pull it out real easy.It also appears to leak oil slightly there.
What is supposed to keep that in? Is it just pressed in from the factory?
I looked at 3 other motors I have access to,and they all have tight dipstick tubes.I cant even turn them, let alone remove them.

Any help on this would be appreciated. It looks like someone tried to put some silicone around it at some point

Mine is like that, mine also leaves a nice puddle in my driveway, I tried silicone, black rubber sealant, and epoxy none of them worked
.
When I put the motor in the car and I had the oil pans off it looked like a piece of metal from the upper pan broke off, my guess the only way is to swap out the upper pan, but I don't know, if you get bored one day pull the lower oil pan off and look where the dipstick is
.
Maybe miko or shaun b will know the solution

its just pressed in. nothing holds it in place. As long as it did not break in the block you can pull it out and press a new one in. I am looking at mine on my stripped block right now.

It is not broke off,but it is loose enough to pull right out.
I tried to remove one off an old motor, but I am afraid of breaking it.

When it happens or the dipstick breaks and we have to pull the tube out, I just put the tube back and give it a good whack with the pliers I used to take it out.
