How to tell if a Trans is bad? 56K no no
The guy I got this from claimed second gear is gone. I took it apart to see what's damaged and try to see if I need to order anything else. I found nothing, it looks like a perfectly good transmission. I'll post pics just incase I missed something.

okay, I searched alittle more. other than shredded gears, there's no other way of knowing if a gear is bad. so I guess I got me another B15 trans for under $300!!

gee thanks keo, haha yeah in comparison to mine, wait there is no comparison. all the gears on yours look fine, maybe just the 2nd gear syncro is out causing second gear to be hard to go into. I would also check the forks to make sure they are not bent or broken and also the shift linkages in there as well make sure everything is in line.

nice pickup if you got that thing for that price. lucky bastard. haha

as for the price, I'm not going to lie, I got 2 of these for $200 each

lsd one? by the looks of the diff that one seems to be. Just look and see if the teeth on them are chewed up, the syncros are the gold thin sleeves before each race slides to lock each gear. its kinda hard to tell when they are bad just by looking at them. just see if you can see any abnormal wear on the 2nd gear cyncro compared to the others. the syncros also like to wear on the portion you cant see thus being hard to tell. haha.

congrats on the find, you can send one my way if you want, yeah its easy to open up the case it gets more difficult when you go to take the shift linkages and forks out and then the gearset, then the hardest is getting it all to slide back in there all inline. the forks are a pain sometimes especially on those b15 ones the setup is almost identical to my old mazdaspeed protege tranny that i had to rebuild. the shift linkage has this little ball and spring you have to keep pushed into place while you slide the whole gearstack and shift assembly back in. pain in the butt.

it helps to have someone helping you holding the bottom pieces while you slide it back in.

oh and on the other forum there is the how to on dissassembly of a b15 trans. in there he mentioned the check balls and plungers for each of the shift fork shafts that actully control gear engagement, i would definetely check those to make sure they are engaging properly by actually using the shifter on the trans to select gears and make sure everything is engagin properly. just watch the internals
