Lower oil pan?

I've always had good luck with just grey RTV. Remove all the old stuff and and follow the directions for application and you should be leak free.

RTV alone is plenty.

If the lower oil pan surface didn't have a valley in it I'd say you could go ahead and try the gasket with gasket sealant, not RTV. (There's this purple sticky goop that is recommended and I think made by permatex. Copper sealant sounds way wrong.)

What is the gasket made of? Cork? Rubber? Is it flat?
I think 95% of us use RTV only and we all have good luck with that.

I guess I'm more wondering about the shape of it. If it's flat then I wouldn't trust it. If it has a shape to it that goes into the groove on the lower oil pan it should be usable.
I've just never heard of a non-flat cork gasket is why I asked.

What gasket do you speak of? Must be an aftermarket one because in the FSM and FAST both list RTV and have no gasket part number.

- If I have to do it again, I'm doing both.
