Can this be done without removing the dash?

actually... you do not need to remove the dash.. i have done it twice and it is without any problems with the dash in the car. You need to remove the glove box and you have all the room you need.

Agreed, it's pretty easy to get to once the glove box is out of the way.

Glad to hear you can do this without taking everything out like the FSM says. I'll be ordering an expansion valve and evaporator tomorrow!
