Permatex The Right Stuff, anyone use this?
So my moms car has been leaking oil , started slowly and is progressing. She has an '04 Kia Optima and she doesn't trust the dealership to change out the oil pan gasket, it's still under the powertrain warranty, but the dealership she went to doesn't exactly have the best reputation as far as she knows.

i know the torque specs are 7-9 ft lbs on the oil pan bolts and it looks relatively the same as an SR20, upper & lower pans.

I wanted to use Permatex the right stuff, but i haven't had any experience with it.

I only ever used the Permatex gray RTV.

thanks guys!

Stuff is the bomb. Seriously. I've used it so many times it has never EVER let me down. I literally put the sealer on the pan, bolted it up, and filled it with oil immediately. Sent the customer out and never had a single leak.

Flat out amazing stuff. The only downside for performance use is that it only holds up to 500*

I have used it with synthetics as well with no ill effects. The regular black didn't hold up, but the Ultra black and the RIGHT STUFF works perfect.

Plus it is sooooo much easier and faster to apply than the regular stuff. When I put this motor back together, it is going together with this stuff. I'd swear by it. But it doesn't look as nice as the Ultra Gray.

Speaking of Ultra Gray, they have a RIGHT STUFF in Grey now for all import vehicles. It also has higher temp properties.

We used this to seal the oil pan after rod bearing install. Has held up fine for 4 months. If anything, it's easy to apply!

Go to a Hyundai dealership. You don't need to go to a Kia dealer. Hyundai = Kia.

Be aware if something unexpected happens like the timing belt breaking before it's service interval any warranty covering the lost engine will be void. Trust me, when it gonna be big time $$$ warranty they try to pin you on anything they can find.

Also I have a hard time to believe a dealer can be so dumb fixing a simple oil leak can't be trusted to them.

In what way the dealership doesn't have the best reputation? Usually the garage is fine, everything around it can't be trusted at all

yeah , i already changed the timing belt @ 62,xxx miles, it currently has 69,xxx...

changed the balance belt, timing belt, & both outer belts at the same time.

I also did a coolant flush & changed the tranny fluid at that time...

And yeah this particular dealer ( who shall remain nameless ) has a rep for breaking things ( from what they were told by other people ) and then trying to get the customer to pay for broken parts...

doesn't matter either way, if i can change the timing belt i'm pretty sure i can change an oil pan gasket.

I just bought some of the grey stuff for when I change to a Nismo thermostat. Funny that I see this thread!
