well I think they removed the timing chain guide in newer SR20s so that wouldn't rattle in G20, depending on the year, so it might not be a suggestion they'd think of.
IN regards to the tensioner, I just did mine and it's always good to replace it every 100K miles or so. Some people never do it, it's a good thing to change. As far as the starter is concerned, it'll go when it goes. When it struggles more & MORE, then replace that. A small catch might not be a huge issue.
You can always try to save the starter by removing it, packing the planetary gears with tons of grease (and I mean TONS) and put it back on. They start to go when the gears aren't lubed up enough. There are write-ups on it. Good luck bro.
