96 SER 5th gear problem
When I bought the car it didn't have a problem atleast I don't think I did. It's really hard for me to go into 5th I don't even try anymore lol all other gears are fine including reverse. Once in a while it goes in 5th smooth and and soon as I get out of it 5th won't go back it. I have new front and rear mount stock sides and just eBay header. I'm guessing it's internal just by the weird symptoms. Thought I would just make a thread and see what's up. Thanks!

check the clutch cable and see if it needs adjustment. Also if you can get it in 5 th then you try it again and it doesnt go in. try double clutching it. do you hear any grinding or noises while in gear?

Might sound stupid but when in neutral try to push it from the center to the right about 4-5 times then try to put it in gear... Don't know why exactly but it works for me when I'm having troubles with the side gears (1st,2nd, 5th and reverse)

I would check those side mounts and maybe check/change your tranny fluid.

if its adjusted all the way and its hard for you to put it in gear. your cable might be stretched. if your going to be using like that for a little while try shifting it to neutral clutch in 2-3 times then fifth.

its the springs in your clutch....but just check your cable first.

I doubt it can be a spring because it only does it in 1 gear. I could be wrong.

getting it in wouldnt be to hard....it would just pop out.

the problem sounds like a cable or engine mount issue. if the engine is sagging or out of place 5th gear will be hard becuase of the way the linkage is. the se-r's have a solid beam linkage instead of cables. check your shifter mount as well.......fluid change is a damn good idea too. i recommend redline light weight shock proof. or motul gear 300.
