Thread: Won't start when warm?

Short version of the story. I've never had this issue before and I'm stumped. If the car is cool it starts like normal, but if you let it warm up, and cut it off, it won't start back till it cools down. Any ideas?



Long version of the story. Sprayed my car for the first time this year today, and I must say DAMN that mfer moves lol. After I sprayed it the car wanted to idle high, around 2,000 rpms. I drove back to my house, and looked over everything, with it idling, and didn't see anything. I noticed that the idle had however dropped a little bit, so I thought maybe I should let it cool down a bit and see what it does. I cut it off for a few minutes and when I went to start it back, it just cranks and cranks. I checked over everything for a while and when I tried it again, it started. It was a rough start, but it did start and after a second or two it idled fine. I decided I should go drive it just to be sure everything was fine, and it was. After I came back home, I tried to cut it off, and restart it and it just won't start once it's hot.

how old is your fuel pump, is it stock or aftermarket?

It's an aftermarket walbro, a couple years old. You can hear it priming and watch the gauge jump so I'm pretty sure it's fine.

its your coolant tempteture sensor/head temp senosr. the pigtail is red and has 2 wires on it. it is located to the pasanger side of ur intake manifold by the oil filter. trust me i just had this problem about a month ago or so. i spent about 40hrs trying to figure this thing out so yah check ur pigtail if not its your sensor but there only 15 bones from advanced

It reads to the ecu fine. I'll check it out though.

It's hooked up like it's supposed to be, and is reading back to the ecu. I think there's a way to check it with an ohm meter, I'll look in my fsm.

I had this issue. My car would start up cool just fine and after driving a bit, it would get warm and just cut off. It ended up being the coil. That is what I am betting my money on it being. Everyone told me it was this or that, coolant temp sensor, fuel pump. My friend looked at car for 15 seconds as I told him the issue and said to replace the coil. Had not had the issue since...

Well both are actually stock parts on my car lol. It's just odd that it's doing this all of a sudden. As well as the high idle that it did for that little bit.

well still could be the fuel pupmp when the motor gets hot in the pump it will start to fail then when the motor cools off thenit works fine again it will also prime just fine when cold too if its th at then it can get tricky

I think you were right. I went ahead and put a new one in since it was a stock one from god knows when. Both wires were broke in the end of the plug though lol. I got it all fixed and so far it's all good. Thanks!!!
