i think everyone should keep a backup alty bolt...and when you use it..replace it the next day

if the bolts sheared off in the case they are very hard to remove. It can be done. I was unable to extract the bolts so I changed the lsd cover and took the time to inspect the gear stack.

I got one sitting in my emergency tool bag.

I have used this kit with much success in removing broken off in the trans case bolts.

EXDMS48, Set, Extractor, Master, Left Hand, 48 pcs.

Also I don't know what you guys are planning on using as upgraded bolts but I have found BMW headstuds work well once you cut them down to size. I had a few laying around the shop and its the only thing that was long enough with the right thread pitch.



I agree once they are overtightened even once it is a ticking time bomb.

I have had to remove so many sheared bolts from this car, that extracting these should be relatively easy If I can extract cam cap bolts in less than 10 minutes, I can extract transmission bolts

cam cap bolts are zero torque load once they are broken. I have glued a broken bolt back together and unscrewed it before. the tranny is a issue because of the two different materials used(bolts, tranny case). I hope yours come out mine would not and i own the snap on extractor kit. Mine sheared below the hole so I could not weld a bolt to it for removal.

Makes sense that it was over tightened. Joel's last name ARMSTRONG speaks for itself.

They may be zero torque load, but when you're stripping out threads in the head when torquing the cam caps down and you snap the bolt off inside the threaded area, it's not as easy as you say it is to remove it. Especially when it's below the mating surface much like you mentioned welding a bolt to it for removal.

I don't think you understand. He may be 5' tall, but his last name speaks VOLUMES. He BARELY touched a cam cap bolt (separate incident from what I mentioned above,) and he snapped it! WITH HIS HAND!!!

Something about him and nuts n' bolts on a Nissan scares me.
