Respectfully, I see a temp gauge that decides not to show proper reading at any given time as a big issue. Especially considering this has the potential to happen at freeway speeds and RPMs.

naw it goes back to normal at a steady speed. i forgot to mention that its just when i floor it and take off ..

Also, same question for you. Does it drop and hold, or does it drop and sort of move and giggle around?

The temp is separate it seems like. The tach will slowly, I mean very slowly, move up and will continue it hits the end of the tach or until I shut off the car. The temp gauge actually moves with the RPMs of the engine and it will drop all the way to below cold depending on how high the revs are.

I also been fighting this problem .At idle the temp gauge is normal then when I drive it slowly goes down to the cold mark. Also if I turn the heater on it goes down a little bit.I put a new connector on the wire to the sensor and it didn't change. Also bleed the coolant system .what else?

Welcome to B14 wiring nightmares, Project.

Every B14 I have encountered has the same issue, in a round about way.

For instance, my water temp gauge on the dash bounces around all the time, and then sometimes it's just fine. I never pay attention to it anyway since I run an external water temp gauge and sender unit. I would NOT trust a gauge that doesn't tell you temperature readings. Doesn't make sense.

My tach bounces around, too. I don't know if that's what you're actually referring to, or not. I know it's cluster/wiring related, since the VSS has been changed between transmission swaps, and it didn't correct the problem.

Oh, and what's REALLY cool, is when you're in boost and WAY up in speed and RPM, and the entire cluster and all other interior lights go out.

thanks for all of the feedback. i recently took the car out of storage and im not sure if it was doing that before i stored it. it may have just been something i never payed attention to. I did however notice that my rad was lacking a bit of coolant (air in the system), and when i topped it off and bled it, the problem was solved.

Cliff: my tach bounces around, but that is due to rough idle. i still need to get the car tuned . i've never had the lights go out at full boost even when hitting redline but that does sound pretty trippy lol

conclusion: i think it was due to air in the system because everything seems to be back to "normal"

i had that problem too but i think i correct it.

behind the termostat there is a pipe that use liquid gaskets (read it as sylicon). it was leaking on my tranny and when i and my mates where changing my clutch was when we noticed.

That pipe was leaking in my case, and thats why i use to lose some coolant.

Check the level of the radiator, cuz a mechanic once told me that if the radiator level is low the needle use to dance that way.

Right now i havent had the chance to sprint the car, but at least dont see to much of a movement on the needle since we correct that leak.

Cheers.

that's exactly it! other than that, if other people are having this issue, it would probably be an electrical problem.
