Odds of new alty being bad?
Ok, so on friday i got to work, engine was making a really bad clacking sound , kinda like a spun bearing noise. I'm like WTF!!

So i borrow one of the mechanics stethoscope and start to hold it up against the block, phew! so i probe the alty and i hear "clack clack clack" really loud.

So i order an alternator from this parts place that my dealership deals with, got it for cheap, throw it in , but i ddnt get a chance to drive it over the weekend.

I go to work and it starts to chirp and screech, so i think its the belt i may have left a lil loose. I make it tight, then i drive home for lunch.

Brake light and battery light light up. I'm like WTF!! Of all the Nissans i had replace the alty, this is the 1st time i got one that was bad out of the box.

BUT here's my question. I have a T25 kit with MSD 6A, would having the MSD cause the alternator to burn out so quickly? Or can i use any remanned/aftermarket/OEM alternator? Does the MSD box draw more current than the alt. is capable of?

It just seemed so strange that an alt. would be bad right out of the box?

TIA

i would say its slim that it is bad out of the box, but i guess there is always a chance it is defective

If it's a reman, in my experiences, there's a high chance of it being bad out of the box. Went thru 3 autozone remans before I got one that was good. Always have the place test it before you bring it home to install.

Ok i'm such a dumbass! I went out and checked everything to make sure and i found the gray harness, the one in the middle wasn't clicked in all the way.

I kinda by accident found the problem. Just checking the wires n such to see if any had broken and when i took it off it just slid right off. I clicked it back in and started it up just for sh!ts n giggles and WTF? The brake light and battery light were off.

Drove it around and all is well. Dammit, i hate when the simplest problem , that's right in front of you face goes unnoticed.

I was dreading having to remove and replace the alty again. Phew!

when I do get one from autozone I have them run a test before I leave

first off ,
dont trust reman men, i went trough 3 in the 4 months i've owned my nx and they're not worth the trouble ,

you'd be better off with a new stealership one or just find one in a junkyard
