Thread: engine wobble when I let out the clutch pedal...

Today I was repairing my transmission because the 3rd speed popouts.
I unbolted the pressure plate to check flywheel, pp, and clutch disk..
When I was installing the pressure plate, I broke a bolt.
I reinstalled the transmission without this bolt, 5 instead of 6, because I wanted to know if I already repaired the transmission.
No more 3rd popout, but everytime that I press - release the clutch pedal to put a speed, the engine - transmission wobbles.
I know that I must replace the broken bolt, but I want to know if that is the cause o maybe I must a machined flywheel.

ALWAYS resurface your flywheel.

At least resurface with sand paper or a prep wheel on an angle grinder. Depending on how it looks you'd need to get it machined, but most times I just clean it with a wheel on an angle grinder and it's fine.

Definitely replace that bolt for the pressure plate. There's a reason why there's torque specs for the pressure plate. If you broke a bolt, the pressure plate will likely not have equal clamping force, as well as disengagement force. The disc could be coming into contact with the pressureplate and flywheel even when you disengage which would cause the off balance effect.

I already resurfaced with a sand paper and cleaned with brake disc cleaner because I only changed the pressure plate, the clutch disc was the same.

Check your mounts, I snapped off 2bolts on my tranny on the driver side, it wobbles but I'm used to it now.

many reports of those driver side bolts breaking or striping out.

also check all the mounts, this sounds like mounts not the flywheel surface or the the broken bolt.

I disagree with the must re-surface comments above for normal use. If is not warped or torn up why re-surface. Its no more sensitive than a brake surface, ie friction material on steel.


Clean it and go.

all mounts checked, and everything looks fine.
A month ago I replaced those driver side bolts, because all was broken, and the engine don't wobbled like now.

I disagree... Last time I changed my clutch, I didn't resurface the flywheel, it was in good condition, no groves or anything. Well... After about 2 week's of driving it it started the wobble when taking off... Felt like the tires were skipping or something.. Flywheel was resurfaced, problem was fixed...
