Thread: 3rd pop out after disassemble and reassemble the transmission.

I disassemble the transmission to seal an oil leak.
Now, when I try to shift to 3rd, there is a noise, and the shifter is thrown to neutral.
This never happened before.
I know that something is wrong reassembled, but I dont know what.
Any idea?

Until you take it apart and go through the gears there's no telling. It should be obvious though once you have it apart.

Edit: Yah, unless you completely forgot the synchro for 3rd gear but something tells me you didn't take the gear stacks apart.

I began to disassemble the transmission and I found that the snap ring wasn't in the correct place, it's wasn't holding the mainshaft bearing...

Did you have to lift the shaft up to allow the clip to snap into place?
Yes, this could certainly cause your problem. However 1st gear would probably also be having a bit of trouble too.
