for the price of the wrap, the time and the tools to do the job right you could have a fairly decent paint job for prolly cheaper.

I've seen maaco jobs. They have a rough, gritty texture, overspray everywhere, very faded and uneven paint. I may as well mask off my car and have a bunch of neighborhood kids come over and have a blast with some spray paint cans.
There aren't very many tools needed. I will need to body fill some areas, either way. Probably claybar, just to even out the surface, then give it a good wash. To lay the vinyl, you need a friend to help hold it up, some soapy water in a spray bottle, a plastic squeegee, and a sharp blade.

A lot of places are selling car wrap vinyl for the low, low price of $20/linear foot (5' wide). I called one company that will do a 60' roll for $1000, which should be good for 2 cars with some extra. Of course, that's a complete rip, any vinyl shop can get a hold of the same vinyl. I found a guy on the E46 BMW forums that can do $350 for a roll. I'm still working out the details, still deciding on the color.
