I orderd my PCV valve a while ago, it was on back order and usually takes 2 - 3 weeks to arrive. This means in the whole country (just 1 large depot) nobody can get the PCV, it seems to be a non crucial part.

However, I was astonished it was on back order. So I ordered some stupid and rare bolts too, those where on back order too, lol

I also find it funny that autozone has the waterpump in stock but I've been to advance, pepboys, autozone, and bennet trying to find a pcv valve and they all have to factory order it, wtf

When my engine went the spark plug wires melted into the head, so I went to get some new wires the NGK oem 7mm wires are $90, advance auto brand 7mm wires are $63, and magstar 10.5mm wires are $54, wtf

I went to the dealer to get some hard emissions hoses and most of them were discontinued, but I got them from Greg V no problem, wtf

A/C guy sounds like a moron. Not much has changed with A/C systems in decades, aside from refrigerant and the electronic driver controls/solenoids. If anything, the older car is easier to diagnose and repair. People who know anything about cars wouldn't have have that kind of reaction to a mid-90s car. Even a 70s or 80s car, I'd say "send it on down."

Some people can only think of cars as old vs. new. To them, a NEW 2010 Civic is superior to an OLD 1999 BMW 5-Series, (also note, they probably cost the same).

Second, places like Autozone only carry a mishmash of Nissan engine parts. Sometimes you get lucky and they have it, doesn't mean anything. If I had a 2006 Nissan, they'd probably have to special order it.

Third, Wires have always been expensive. A set of OEM wies should cost anywhere between $60-90 for a set. You'll get a better deal if you contact Greg V. If you think wires are expensive, try coil packs. I've got 6 coilpacks on my car and $60 a pop is a deal.

The problem is that even Greg V has to order some parts that aren't frequently replaced on our vehicles. Some things just need to be ordered, and it doesn't matter the make/model.

Do you really think the dealership is going to stock a part for a 10+ year old car? Not likely. They're concern is vehicles they're selling in quantity. The more vehicles they sell, the more parts they need to stock for those particular vehicles.

Driving my SE-R to the dealership in El Paso TX was like a trip to memory lane with the mechanics and advisors/parts clerks there. They see the car pull up and start to flock it, since they're not commonly seen at the dealership (it's a 1998 for chrissakes!)

I guarantee you if you go to a dealership or parts store asking for serviceable parts from a 2005 Altima or Maxima though, and they're going to have a wider selection.

Umm....14 years is old for a car. Most cars that old have 150K-200K on the clock. Pretty much the end of the road for most cars.

90% of the parts I order for both the 91 & 94 are special order anymore. It helps to have a savvy parts guy who knows what the hell is going on when it comes to our cars. The folks at my local dealership have seen me buy parts for my 94 since it was brand new so even when they worked at other local parts counters in the Nissan dealership hub they knew I came prepared to hunt for parts that were hard to find. Most are still amazed that I've kept her for so long and still do maintenance on both cars for as old as they are. I refuse to pay more for an OEM part than I have to and will search for the best deals. Unfortunately there are a lot of discontinued parts from the dealer that even Greg V has trouble getting and he can get almost anything.

Cliff hit it dead center. Cars that are within a 10 yr build from now are way easier to get parts for because of the volume they move for that popular make & model. B13/B14 platforms are laughed at in most dealerships anymore.
