VSS Technical Question
I'm curious if anyone knows the exact function of the VSS on a B14. FSM diagrams show the cluster sending some sort of power to the VSS via a Red wire, and the VSS returning a signal through the Red/Yel wire.

Does anyone happen to know what is sent to the VSS from the cluster (i.e. is it 5v DC, some sort of AC, etc.) and what is returned to the cluster to drive the speedometer? Unfortunately, I need specifics. General statements such as "it measures the difference between the wires" does me no good...I'm looking for specific numbers and variances between the input and output for the VSS.

This is for a '97 electronic VSS. IIRC the B15's have a different VSS that utilizes ground as a "source input" if you will, and sends a variable signal to the cluster, eliminating the need for the "Red" wire found in the B14 cluster harness. While this system seems easier to understand, if you know how that style sensor works (again, specifics needed), that would help me as well.
