Thread: SR20VE vs SR20DET

ok everybody knows dets can make more power but lets put it this way:
Which would be better: SR20DE(T) 220 hp not something too powerful or a VE N1s, headers u know normal bolt-ons.
-Fuel economy
-reliability
-fun to drive
-maintenance
-parts availability
???
Which would be a better choice for a daily driver?
I just cant make up my mind for a swap

It depends with boost you can go bigger turbo and have tons of power. Go the VE route and do bolt ons tune and big bore and make maybe 250whp(my guesstimate,sp?)...

like most i started DE with full boltons then planned to boost my motor, but i didnt think boost would be daily efficent for me, so im almost done putting together my VE build(eventually 2.2, but it will be 2.0 for a while). when the 2.0 is up and going ill boost my DE and havefun with both.

if i wanted power i would go with a det... thats not what i want, I need it to be reliable and relatively fuel efficient

a det can be if done correctly.

just a plain t25 set up

i ran my bb for almost 3 yrs at stock boost/baby steps..no problems at all..it's always when u got the boost itch than stuff will break

my buddies nx is the same way. He has had the same bluebird turbo setup on his jdm de for 2 1/2 years now without a single issue at all other than having to put a new rebuilt turbo on. T25 at 9psi. Gets good gas mileage and runs hard.

Now he is finally upgrading to an s14 t28 turbo at 11 psi, that once he gets a wideband will go up to 15-16psi, And as long as everything is monitored carefully it should last just as long as the t25 setup did. Again still on the same motor just swapped turbos.

a t28 might work... i want to have around 28 mpg and good response a t28 bb might work nice with a small fmic
