Vadim, where do you get these STI mufflers? Unfortunately STI is only a 3 letter word so the search function is not that helpful. You video gives me an error by the way.

I found mine by doing a random Google search, found a random For sale post on SRT-4 forums and called the guy. It was a gamble, but Paypal did have my back in case the guy never shipped it. I paid $70 shipped, best $70 I've spent on the exhaust .

Now my muffler didn't come with any extra piping. Just two inches to weld the new piping and call it a day .

What he said. Older mufflers will be dual tipped I believe. 04-07 seems to be the best.

I have had a lot of trial and error with exhaust. At one point I had just the cat and the stock cat back, with a 3in downpipe that had an e-cutout welded on to it. I had two different mufflers and at one point just some straight pipe where the muffler is. And a straight through 3in exhaust with nothing in the way. I have also had just the cat on the end of the 3in downpipe. That cat always seems to make a pretty big difference in sound. It quiets things down to almost what some mufflers do. It is defiantly worth keeping/putting back in especially if you are trying to quiet your exhaust down.

Make sure none of the piping touches the chassis and all of the exhaust/muffler bearings are in good condition. If there is contact with the exhaust and the car the inside of the car can get REALLY LOUD.

Yes, it is OEM Subaru. The STI didn't come to the US until 04. The same axleback/muffler was used for 04-07. It will always have the STI logo engraved on the tip. Do not confuse it for the 05+ WRX single tip muffler/axleback which will be smaller internally and more restrictive. The dual tip muffler from the WRX is from 02-04... you don't want that either.

The dual tip is the WRX which is 2" ID and more restrictive... the STI is 2.5" ID and one of the most free flowing OEM mufflers out there. Plus the dual tip looks horrible IMO.

I'm thinking that some eDead or something of that nature with a foil covering (to keep the heat at bay from baking the material) will suffice for a damper between the exhaust and body of the car.

HEY, my scooby teacher has a big ass exhaust on his STi and there is one section that touched the body, he used a universal exhaust hanger (the one with the "rubber" strap) and clamped the rubber to the part that was rubbing. worked flawlessly.

also, alot of scooby owners have cept the stock STI muffler and simply upgraded all the pipeing before it to the tune of 300+whp. im sure its holding them back.....but very little and to me the massive increase in volume by switching to another muffler would not be worth it. (im sure there are others with more than 300whp and stock sti muff.....but seriously, if your looking for more power than that why be concerned with noise?)
