Thread: Manual Radiator Switch

I wanted to know who has done this and if they have some tips on how they did it? Parts, wiring ect. I have slim pushers and I wanted them to be on a manuel switch.

-Wire them up to a direct 12V source (probably not directly to the battery, and make sure it's fused)
-Use a relay to close the connection when you want them on
-Wire the relay to a switch

Don't wire them directly to a switch, because the switch will almost certainly get very hot and after awhile destroy itself. Also, it's manual. =D

I have mine wired up to a switch using a relay. The good thing is, my radiator's pretty damn good, I never go over 180, even with the fans off.

I don't completely recommend it, there have been times I forgot and it went up to about 210, which isn't hot enough to hurt anything, but it's still the fact that I forgot that matters. It's not all that hard to wire in a thermostat to a relay, bout the same amount of work as a switch.

There is an old how to thread on the other forum. It's by toolapcfan. I run mine directly to the ground signal on the ecu. Been working like that for 6 years and has not failed me yet with the stock fans.

Just wire the fans up to the two plugs already existing (fused, relayed).

Then find the ground wire on the ecu and tap into it. you ground that wire and it turns both fans on.

I have my ac button setup to turn fans on, however fans will work as per oem spec also.

I did this to my old b13 as per Toolapcfan's instructions EXACTLY and never had a problem. The car is on it's second owner since I had it and I'm sure it's still there. If you are going to do it. DO IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME.

I wanted to do this, but couldn't locate the proper wire to do this, despite several calls and threads on this forum regarding it . What wire and where did you tap in for the switch?
