Knock Sensor wire OK?
So during my head and intake mani swap I noticed that the knock sensor harness is pretty damn short and vary easy to break off. Well I took off the harness/injector clips and decided to lengthen the wire about 4-6 inches to help. (see pic) Well when I cut the heat shrink back I noticed that the wire coming from the sensor what white and then about 4 inches from that it was black. Couldn't follow it all the way to the injectors. So I decided to cut it anyways and noticed that the white wire was cover in more wire and then the black wire coating. (see diagram) So I decided to cute the white away and the black away and solder TWO separate end to end connection in order to lengthening them.

But my question is... Why is it like this? Ground? Shielding?

its shielding. if you extend the wire make sure you dont get any extra resistance. that outer wire grounds to the sensor grounds on the ecu side.

Well its should be ok. I soldered both wire up good and heat wrapped them also. If I do check the wire's. What kinda of number should I be looking for?

as little ohms as possible threw the cable.

I thought it would be shielding to avoid any false signals.

thats what the outer wire casing does it keeps the signal clean but it grounds on the ecu side. it should be clean from resistance if you lengthen it so as not to get a code or cel.

I think it should be ok... if it throws a cel I will have to get a new harness then I guess.
