I'm going to attempt this tomorrow. I bought a bottle of CLR, I'm thinkin it should should work. I've seen commercials where they swish it in the coffee pot and it restores it. I will try to post a pic of the fog light that has the stain. I don't want to try anything and ruin the fog because it's almost impossible to find a replacement. Is there a type of cleaner that will get rid of the brownish stain on the chrome in the foglight without stripping the chrome?

This is the fog, it's the best pic I could take with my blackberry. Would soap and water be able to clean it?

Took the headlight apart. Swished some CLR in the glass and scrubbed it with a toothbrush and put it back together. Looks brand new now. It took me a while to separate the glass from the fog light, had it in the oven for a while. I started to scrub at the housing and gold sparkles were barely coming off. What grit sand paper would be good to strip all the paint from the housing? BTW, all the glue there is oem.

Take all the glue out and use RTV Gray when putting it back together. Use a 1500 or 2000 grit wet sand to remove the paint from the housing itself. if you're removing the paint to apply fresh chrome paint, then just scuff it up with 1000 grit sandpaper so that the chrome paint holds.

Then when you're ready, put the RTV gray on the lens housing, clamp it together, and bake in the oven for around 10 minutes. Then let sit out to cool for about an hour. That helps cure the RTV and whatnot.

Thanks Cliff. It's going to be hard to remove the glue but i'll take my time with it. The headlight had nowhere near as much glue. I'm repainting the housing, I'll be getting some sand paper hopefully tomorrow. Should i put down primer first? Or just hit it with the paint and let it dry?

I finally got around to doing the fog. Before I sprayed it down, I tested the chrome paint on a nissan emblem. It's not shiny at all. The paint I used is Krylon metallic brillian silver. The cap is chrome. What paint should I use to coat the fog housing? I want to do this one time and get it done with.

Instant Chrome & Gold

I don't use Krylon for anything, anymore. Duplicolor works MUCH better.
