Thread: white smoke?

Lately when I am at a stop, white smoke will come out of the exhaust and a good amount too. I do not have a blown head gasket for sure. I am trying to take care of this problem asap, anyone have an idea what it could be?

In my experience whit smoke is usually coolant burning. Could be wrong though.

Not top get too nitpicky on you, but how do you know the headgasket is in perfect condition, and not leaking anywhere, such as from the water jacket to a cylinder?

i went to nissan and had them check it out, they said the head gasket is fine and one of the guys at my shop did a head gasket test.....

If you're burning coolant, it will be a white smoke. Oil burning will be a bluish-tinted smoke.

If you're burning coolant, it's getting from the water jacket into the cylinder by means of a leak in the head gasket.

If you're burning oil, it's either doing the same as the coolant by getting through a leak in the head gasket, or it's an issue with piston rings and it's getting up through there.

Now you can see why I'm skeptical about the condition of your head gasket, 2/3 of the options are related to it having some sort of leak, even a small one.

Check coolant level? It could be excess gas too, but either way you should notice by now

i just found out, the seal on the turbo (exhaust side) blew so im fixing that today

oh, well sheesh, had you mentioned that first we could have advised you to look there as well

I had no clue it was a turbo vehicle.
