smoke coming from engine after replacing power steering belt
i just replaced my power steering belt because it snapped on me while i was driving and of course my engine started to heat up. after replacing the belt i started my car to let it warm up and it started to smoke. could it be that the water pump needs to be replaced or maybe a head gasket???

i really need to get this problem solved, any help is greatly appreciated. thanks.

Did it overheat on you or just get a little hot? Is it a sweet smelling smoke? If it is you are leaking coolant from somewhere, be sure that it's not just a line or something before you spend the money on a waterpump. Waterpump has a weep hole in the bottom of it that leaks when the waterpump goes, if it is coming from the pump then of course you need a new one

nope its not a sweet smell when smoking, the smoke started coming when the belt was sqeeking and the belt got really hot. i didn't leave the car on long enough to see if it was over heating since its late ididn't want to disturb the neighbors. but i'll let it run in the morning to see if it over heats or not.

Is the belt tight? Does the PS and WP pulleys rotate? if one is stuck the belt is just going to burn up. The WP and PS should turn by hand.

That's what I was thinking. If the ps or water pump is seized, that may be why the old belt snapped in the first place

took the belt off the see if the pulleys would turn freely like you said squirlz. the ps pulley rotates by hand but the pulley with the 4 nuts wont budge. so since its stuck do i just replace the pulley or the wp?

You would need to replace the water pump.
