If you`ve used mineral its best to switch to semi for a few changes before switching to full syn. I use silkolene Pro S 10w-50, a great oil for track use.

There was an EXTENSIVE discussion of this on the old site that included some really knowledgeable folks, you might go search there. On balance it seems to be worth it for those of us who REALLY give a rip about our cars. If you toss out a daily driver every couple years it'll just cost you $ and benefit the next owner. Most of the really serious engine folk here (e.g., Dre) use nothing but M1 0-30 or 5-30. With an old beat up motor you might consider a bit more viscosity, but with an old beat up motor I'm not sure somebody should spend the bux on synthetic.

Actually royal purple(group 4) is better that mobil one.Mobil one downgraded to group 3 oil since loosing its case vs castrol syn.I dont want to get into debates but mobil is still a good oil but not like before.

You will be glad you did... Good luck using it...go on the net and check it out..
Royal purple lost as well in the testing.
I did not make my comment to try and sell oil or to say I know everthing-just providing years of info and the facts...

No one has mentioned Lucas Oil here as well. It is the fastest growing oil company in the USA...
A truck driver made this happen and started the company~! Does he know more than the oil companies about protection and oil, or is he just a good marketing gooo-rooo?

Everywhere you look you see Lucas Oil, adds, race cars ect. They do have some great products.
I want to know who made the oil for that truck driver who is now very rich owning Lucas oil? Guess he made it in his garage?
{I contacted Amsiol- but never got a responce}.

no oil protects better than amsiol...

Might as well throw this in.

I was thinking of switching, at 180K now. Main reason I want to now is because within the year I am turboing the car. What do you all think about synthetic then?

I have a Napa literally next door that sells amsoil.

I just got a case of Amsoil 10W30 for $60.

Both cars runs Amsoil, SE-R and MP3.

I used to run Mobil1 in the SE-R then they changed their formulation and it is no longer a true synthetic, went to German Castrol but can't find it anymore so jumped to Amsoil.

Absolutely love the stuff.
