They don't ALL need to be replaced, and rarely fail. Generally, bleeding the lifters will renew them, since they normally just end up with pockets of air in them. You can replace them individually if one has failed, but I'd personally just replace all of them with the newer RR style lifter if I was going to do one. I'm not sure how much they cost, I think I've seen that they were $35 EA?

To pull them out the fastest, turn them a few times as you lift straight up. You shouldn't need to use pliers or anything else.

exactly, you can find some used ones if you post up a wanted add. Thats where i got mine from. I think i paid $40 shipped for the set of RR lifters. Worked out well. Ive hit 11k+ rpms on my motor a couple times when i was full throttle full boost in 3rd and 4th gear and the gear gave way. Never thrown or broken a rocker yet. So they work well. I dont even have rocker arm stoppers either.

So its all up to you, and yes you shouldnt have to use pliers if you just twist and pull. Again unless there is damage and they get siezed but thats rare and unlikely.

If they are stubborn, you can stick a piece of hose on them then grab that (carefully) with pliers.

How exactly do you bleed the lifters? It all sounds so gizmo to me, don't know where to start and I should try it since one lifter goes hammering at cold start. Shutting down and restart made the problem go away till now.
