Which trans are you using now? Did you have wheel hop?

Why Is That Part Of The Tranny Welded? Cause It Broke From Right There.

doesnt look welded, it looks chewed up from it turning with the axle when it shouldnt have been. Thats pretty nice carnage right there. Wheel hop or what, Or did this occur on the mis shift and then slamming the next gear. Takes some force to break it like that. Crazy.

The Trans is 2002 VQ35 LSD. No welding, that's the factory "webbing", Might want to think about having that strengthened next time around. No wheel hop, the mounts are very solid, nice clean burnout, clean launch (minus the spinning). I'd imagine it happened when slamming the gears.

And for the record, Ashton, Yes, I had to drive it home that way, so the edges look rounded from that part of the trans spinning with the axle. It was a little noisy, but the car drove home surprisingly well. There was still quite a bit of gear oil on the driveway the next morning, so I'm not sure what I did to the gearstack by driving it home. All I knew was the car was still able to move and I didn't want to pay for a tow.

Anyway, I guess I'm going to have to open it up, just to see the carnage. Think there's any chance the only damage is to the case (and prolly the diff)?

You'd be very lucky to not see any damage to the stack or diff. As long as you babied it and didn't thrash, and your engagements were smooth as butter, you may be okay on the stack. Not very likely though.

I cracked my tranny much less sever than you did but in the same spot. I did not have internal damage and I drove the car a few hundred miles before getting it replaced. It did leak fluid a good amount though, had to refill it a couple of times before my other trans came in.

I know they are different tranny's, I just wanted to share my experience and relate it to yours. <3 you, bye!

id say damage just to the case. You will still have quite a bit of gear oil in there even with the spot that broke, It will eventually all splash out but its not like you cracked the bottom of the case allowing all the oil to be lost.

Ive done that and drove it home 50 miles, that was very very noisy and gears sounded like a jet plane but yeah i didnt reuse that trans.

GL, how hard is it replacing the trans with the swap or do you have to pull down the motor too. Looks like a tight squeeze.

Well, I'm crossing my fingers and hoping it's just the case. Not even sure if I can get a case for a VQ35.
