That it does. It also insultates the terminal and the mess of wires from shorting out on the underside of the hood should the battery get loose and take a vertical field trip.
I had that pointed out to me at AutoX tech with my '95 U13 backup car last Fall. The top of the "red box" had cracked off, so in
theory IF the heavily bolted down battery got loose it could short against the hood
Duct tape saved the day...just another reason I like getting the battery
out of there altogether, inside a plastic box in my trunk, or for a shorter cable run (~6') the passenger side floor in front of or behind the seat (better if you like other people in your ride).
Especially if you have a WAI getting that big box out of the airflow is really nice...plus the battery stays out of the elements.
