One thing to keep in mind though, you don't really need the KA to rev to the moon. You're probably going to keep a KA drivetrain, so the gearing is different for a KA than an SR. You could rev it to 6500 and such and still have tons of fun.

When I had my 240 it was almost stock. It had a crank pully, no egr and I removed the mechanical fan and put electrical fans. For what few mods were done the motor reved pretty freely, not how everyone says they dont rev for sh!t.

on a side note just like SR motors, the newer KAs can use the older cams to make a few more ponies.

I agree with keeping the KA. It's a truck your going to want to maintain your torque numbers. Just strap on a turbo to the KA and your good.

I mean unless your getting an SR20det practically for free I don't see how the SR will be the better option.

If your truly set on a swap I say look into getting one of the nissan turbo diesels put in. That would really be sick. Nissan and Toyota both suck for not bringing their turbo diesel small pickups over.

My 97 Hardbody KingCab had airbags & they worked too.

D22 Frontiers have them too but they have the system where you can deactivate the Pass Side airbag with your key.

I have a 2004 Nissan Xterra base model. Guess what, it is 5 speed and ka. It would be perfect to put a S15 sr20 in. It shares the same mounting points as a hardbody and frontier so the it would not be that hard to get a sr mounted up in there. Plus there is lots of room in the engine bay to retain Ac, power steering and Abs. I only have 40k on my truck so I dont think its an option yet lol.

Xterra 2000 - 2004 come with KA24 motors

Frontier 1997 - 2004 come with KA24 motors.

If the KA is in there the SR will get in there with no problem

Most xterra's had the vg33E motors in them.Only a few had ka's.
I'll may do a crazy xterra motor swap soon.

Are you planning on towing or loading up the bed? The different models have different GVWR ratings as well as maximum towing, and maximum load in the bed.

The four cylinder Frontier models are rated much lower. It would be good to know if the four cylinder and V6 models are built the same except for the drive train. The highest rated out of that generation seems to be the 4WD Supercharged V6 models.

This thread made me think about a Frontier myself. I would like to step up to a newer car when I get out of school. I think a compact truck would be a good move as I'll need something to haul around my b13's. I'm thinking though the 2nd gens with the 4.0 liter VQ are hard to beat as far as value. You get 284ftlbs of torque at the crank. Sure you can make more then that with a turbo KA but you lose the reliability of a completely stock vehicle.
