Manual Transmission Swaps
Okay, I know next to nothing about the FWD manual transmissions. I currently have a RS5F32A. This is the transmission from the p10, b13, b14, and early p11's. It does not have an LSD.

Now the common swap is to go to the B15/P11 SR transmission, model number RS5F70A/V. The RS5F70A is also in the QR18 B15 Sentra.

What stops me from bolting up a QR18 RS5F70A to my SR20?

Also, as I'm sure many of you have seen there is a RS5F50V transmission for sale. This is used in Altima's and Maxima's. What's involved with this swap? It has a larger inputshaft and axles. So I'm assuming new clutch and axles, anything else?

Before anyone brings up LSD's, please don't. I don't care if its an LSD unit, I actually prefer it not to be for obvious reasons.

Also don't care about mounts. And I do not want to make an adapter plate if at all possible.

Ha I'm doing the same research right now! The RS5F50V that is for sale came from a non USDM market, and specifically has the SR20DE bellhousing. The RS5F50V in the USDM came in the Altima and Maxima as you stated, but I don't know if you can swap the bellhousing from an SR tranny to the Altima/Maxima tranny. I would venture to say that you could, since it wouldn't make sense for Nissan to make several different variations of the RS5F50V gearstack to accept only one type of bellhousing...

Anyhow, the only thing stopping you from bolting up the RS5F70A (A being non-LSD) would be the bellhousing, if what I'm assuming above is correct. The only OTHER possibility is that Nissan didn't allow for the transmission mount provision on the front of the case? I haven't seen a pic so I can't tell you...

Yeah, I would assume at most its an bell-housing issue. Making mounts is stupid simple.

From another website:

the RS = relocated shifter (FWD)
5F/6F = 5 forward, 6 forward gears
50 = gear case series (has all same trans mounting points and sensors.. at least it's supposed to)

A or V or H = A, Open. V, Vlsd. H, Hlsd.

With the information above being stated, if a 70 series case works as far as mounting, and a 50 series case works as far as mounting, the only other possibility is shafts, and bellhousings?

so the RS5F70A from the GQ will mount up with a SR?

I don't know with 100% certainty, Dan. I'd be skeptical until I could see what each bellhousing looks like as far as bolt pattern?

I'm looking up information on input shafts right now, because it seems the input shaft on the RS5F50V is larger than on the RS5F32A/V. The input shaft being larger means that you'd need to change the clutch/flywheel setup, correct?

From yet another website

Your SR powered U13 uses an RS5F50A or RS5F50V
This box is used with SR motors in the U12 & U13 bluebirds.
It is also used with the VQ motors in the Maxima/Cefiro.
It is also used with the CA & KA motors in the U12 & U13 Bluebirds, and M11 Prairie.
VQ, CA & KA engines have a different bell housing but you could fit the casting from your existing box.
I can't recall any other front drive vehicles that used it.

The front drive SR powered U14 Bluebird, P10 & P11 Primera, N14 & N15, B13 & B14 all use the RS5F32A or V box. It has smaller CV's, half shafts, input shaft etc.

That was from an overseas site. I assume this means we can use a USDM bellhousing on an RS5F50A/V gearcase? I'm trying to learn as much as I can right this very minute, like you I'm still looking for your answer, though.

Okay seems the USDM Altima tranny will not mate up to the SR20DE. Shawn Atgerbrock posted on the other forum back in 2005 stating this is what makes Altima swaps so difficult.
