If you don't remember, maybe reminding you that I am the person that re-built that car after JGY screwed it up will help. That was before Chad or you owned it....

You should def listen to this man he knows his stuff and for you to run those cams in your motor isnt the best thing to do at all. Also who put this motor back together after you blew it up this time?

So are my assumptions correct in that he's using a GTI-R head?! Wow

I tried responding to your post man, but I never heard back from you. I've been tryin to get the history on this car since I got it from Chad. If you rebuilt this from JGY, I'd hate to see what it was like from them. I've got some interesting pictures for you regarding what I've found since I bought this thing.

So what is the issue with the cams exactly? You're saying my lifters may be damaged? What do they mess up in the head from your experience? You are the 1st and only person I've heard this from so I'd like to know what you've experienced.

Thanks for all the input guys...if the cams are the issue. I'll take those out here shortly.

This is the only time it's been apart since I've owned it. A buddy of mine on the forum put it back together for me a few weeks ago.

From JWT:

S3M BILLET CAM SET - GTIR .456"LIFT / 263 DEG DURATION. MECHANICAL LASH ONLY. NOT FOR USE IN HYD. LIFTER SR ENGINES. USE WITH FACTORY OEM SPRINGS.

Brian Crower doesn't make a Mechanical Lash camshaft for the SR20. 'Nuff said.

Hmm...

Another interesting thing: From what I've been reading, the BC STG2 and STG3 are compatible with solid lifters due to their ramp angles of the lobes?

My bet then is that the noise is DEFINITELY valvetrain noise. A combination of solid lifter with a larger cam will do that, easy. Mine are loud with BC STG 3 cams but with hydraulic lifters.

You may want to invest in rocker arm stoppers...

Okay so here's the final thought:

BC STG II's seem to be pretty close in lift/duration compared to the JWT S3M's. You may be okay, possibly...

BC STG II's are 264 degrees @ .475" lift.

I appreciate you taking the time to look this info up Tekkie. If they are compatable with solid lifters, should I be worried about anything other than the noise? I can live with it as long as it is not potentially damaging anything in the head. If Naghebe chimes in with some clear cut reasons and examples of why not to run them then I will not hesitate to remove them.

I'm no expert here, so I'm taking in any and all the helpful info from you all that are more experienced. Maybe I should have went with JWT, but I'd rather not pull these and re sell them with under 600 miles on them unless I really have to.

I would swap cams and see what happens IMO

Do you have the timing chain guard on? or w/e the hell that thing is. I duno if the gti-r motors had them. But it could be that.
