autozone carries pennzoil syncromesh in some places. It does not state gl4 but is known to be the same as other syncromesh.

I used sta-lube from napa. It is a heavier weight but it is much cheaper then anything out there, over the counter and gl4. Worked great most of the year. During really cold mornings it was really thick until the car warmed up.

this is going to be one of the things I'm just going to keep stocked in my garage. Always keep 1gal of it on-hand.

The 00+ p11's have hex sockets for the fiill and drain plug. Fill is 10mm and drain is 14mm. I don't know if the thread and pitch are the same but if they are might be worth swapping out for you guys that keep stripping your old square drive fill and drain plug.

BTW I don't think it's a "fill" hole. I think the fsm says to fill through the speed sensor hole. That hole is an inspection hole. I to fill it from there. A funnel up on top of radiator and a long hose works perfect.

After fighting with my tranny on cold mornings in the NE, I'm planning to change the gear oil to something a bit more acceptable. Right now the Shockproof Heavy is just too damn harsh in the morning. Hell I have to fight to put the tranny in gear in the early A.M.

I know that was a little off topic, but I plan on using 3:1 ratio of Shockproof Heavy and MT90. That should lighten it up a bit.

Tekkie, I've experienced the same thing now that it's cold. I was telling Vadim the other day. I used to have MT-90 and everything was great up North in the cold. Now I've got about 55% MT-90 and 45% Heavy Shock proof and it's unacceptable in the morning for me. It's not that it feels thick, it's that it doesn't do it's job properly and 2nd gear needs a whole lot of attention not to grind. I can't imagine what it would be like with 100% Heavy.
I'm going back to 100% MT-90 when I get the chance. What little protection the Heavy Shock Proof offers is not worth it to me. If I had a remote starter or if it were a dedicated track car it would be a different story.

Interesting. I may follow you back to 100% MT-90 then. I don't have grinding issues, I just have to be "forceful" for the first few minutes of driving after I can get the car to running temps.

well i am gonna end up going to murrays and buying the fluid i know they have it locally. but if ya'll say that penzoil synchromesh works then ill probably end up doing that to tell you the truth. but the other night i had massive problems. it was 29 degrees and i started the car for the first time in 5 weeks and thise gears were some hard shifting. but then i just let it warm up and it was fine.
but it is a major problem that most of the shops and stores only carry gl-5.

I think NAPA sells a GL-4, but I am not sure if it is synthetic. I will not use anything but MT-90.
If you jack the car up as high as possible on the side you need to work on, the oil should run to the other side and minimize the amount of loss (I think, never did it that way).
