Thread: pressure plate problem, anyone ever seen this??

Started to pull the pressure plate and clutch disk today for an upgrade when I noticed this...



Also noticed this to the left side inside the bellhousing...



It has an XTD clutch in it off of ebay. I got it hoping it would hold my t25 set up. Held fine once the car was rolling but slipped from a dig. There's no blueing on the flywheel or the pressure plate but it seems that my throwout bearing was not pushing evenly on all of the tines, hence one side of the tines is bent in more than the other side. First I've ever seen or heard of this and have no idea what is causing it. The second pic, shows where the pressure plate has obviously been rubbing the inside of the bellhousing. XTD FML.

Are you sure it was installed properly? The disc was well aligned before you torqued the pp down?

I have seen it before person put it back in and used it haha.

About the rubbing on the inside of the bellhousing; was the thin spacer between the engine and transmission present and accounted for?

yes, it's still on there at the moment. I'm pretty sure the disc was centered. I did notice that when I pull the lever to the throw out bearing that it kinda shifts a little to one side when you first pull it but it straightens out the farther the lever is pulled. I don't want to install a brand new clutch and pp wondering if this is going to happen again. I'm wondering if this isn't the reason this clutch was slipping on stock boost??

Are both of the alignment dowels in place?

yes I thought that was possible as well but everything fit right, I was thinking that it might possibly be something on the tranny side of things but everything seems to be fine there.

lol i've done that before.. that plate is a must have, so are the dowells.

I would be more concerned by the oil all over it??? where's that coming from?

Yea...The oil contamination might be the reason why it is slipping. Take off the flywheel and take a look at the rear main seal to see if it is leaking. Can you take some better pics of the bent "fingers" on the pressure plate?
