transmission wont go in first or 2nd?
so, i just got my nx back together.....and the tranny wont shift in to 1st or 2nd! i think it was fine BEFORE i put the drivers side axle in, but now, no way can i get it in first or 2nd gear, even with the car off and the clutch depressed. trying to find out whats going on. its a jgy tranny, welded case and cryo treated gears. dont know if that could have something to do with it. maybe its a bent linkage, but nothing is diffrent than before. i dunno.

Sounds like the throw out bearing may not be on properly. Gonna have to take it back off and make sure the clips are on the T/O bearing are properly aligned. Did you install new T/O bearing and clips?? Also jack up the car and make sure the shifter rods not hitting anything and you have the trans mount bolt in and tight.

throwout bearing is not the problem, Maybe the fact that the trans is a jgy trans is what the problem is. If everything checks out like the shift rod then its obviously an internal problem. Probably the linkages are not lined up right or something happened to the trans causing it such as shattered teeth getting bound up in the linkages. This is what happens when you strip the teeth on a gear. The metal goes right down where the linkages are and locks it out of first and second because they linkage cannot move in the direction needed.

It could be something wasnt reinstalled correctly in the linkages as well, like lining up all the mechanisms with the forks. Again if its a jgy trans i would have no doubt or if you bought it off someone who was using it with a lot of power.

gahhh. yeah, im with ashton on this. the tran came with the car, i always was skeptical of it. it was a freebee, guy claimed it was good, but i never believe anything people say these days. ill try loosening up the linkages. its just weird, because BEFORE i put the axle in, i could put it in all gears just fine. hope its just out of alignment, but my luck i need a trans. poo. guess ill put the other one i have back in, back to 5th gear pop out. blah.

well, i hate to be the one to say it.....but i dont have the skill, lol. im the replace it guy, i just dont have the tools to dissasemble a tranny. im about to go outside and play with the linkages.....im REALLY sick right now, and shouldnt even be anywhere but bed, but im to stubborn right now. HOPE its just a bent linkage or somethin stupid. But can anybody tell me if there SHOULD be a connection between the fact that BEFORE i put the axle in it would go in all gears fine, but NOW it wont that the axle is in?

I agree 100% , i have had this issue before , i replaced the throw out bearing and clips NEW OEM NISSAN not autozone crap , Problem solved.

Just cause its a JGY tranny you cant assume that it crapped on you, this is what are trannys do.
Personaly i have done buissness with JGY and i think their customer service sucks , but thats besides the point .

On topinc your clips are either bent or one fell off and its causing vibration ,

try starting the car and going into second first and you will se the resistance , thats the clips from the shift fork to bearing not extending the bearing to push the pressure plate.

try this before you go buying another tranny.

Your axels should not cause this to happen if you feel the snap ring on the end lock in place.
