Yah... The only thing I could think of was re-installing the driver's side axle. People have a bit of trouble with that. I'm at a loss as well...

dan kan je het beste de as laten zitten in de bak, bij een sr20 zit er een extra steunlager waardoor de as niet zomaar uit de bak kan.

Translation:

Which side do you have to replace? Passenger-side, right?

Then it's best to leave the axle in the tranny. The SR20 has an extra supporting-bearing that makes removing the axle from the tranny difficult.

LOL, the passenger one has a bearing that bolts to the block, but it's not a concern. In fact, because of that bearing, the pass. axle is much easier to remove than the driver's. Just remove the axle from the hub, unbolt that support bearing, and she slides right out.

The driver side doesn't have any support, and as such requires a circlip to hold it in the trans, and is a PITA.

This "crum" guy seems to not have worked on these axles before.

And, I'm curious how you intended to inspect and service an axle while leaving it in the car on the curb, seeing as "crum" said it's "best to leave it in the tranny"

Do it right the first time. It's not hard. Just take it out.

@M0J0 Check the replacement axle I've sent to you, I have put in some bolts but not really fastened, that is the supporting bearing.

You do have access to a slagmoersleutel? (powered wrench)

@Wingman Do I need special tools for the circlip? I'll be installing the other axle from the same scrap car soon and I would like to minimalize the PITA first

Offtopic, this is a pita:

I only had to use 3.5 qts I I used redline in my b13 tranny and have changed fluid axles and trannyies oh maybe 10+ times including the other sr's I work on, never takes all 4 qts. And alldata says it only needs 3.3qts. I'm with the guys saying just change the fluid, while ur at it spend 40 bucks get redline and ur tranny will love u forever. I had a friend run almost dry of gear oil(leaking axle seals) and had no grinding still so its definently worth it. As far as the PITA part well trust me I own a shop, and work on sr20's on the lift and have done them on the ground with a B.s. Lilttle jack and a harbor freight tranny jack(pretty crappy but saves ur back). There is a trick to it and its that it is 100times easier on a lift and u still need a baddas prybar an ass load of elbow grease and muscle and the perfect placement of the prybar. On the ground ur gonna have some soreness the next day so just do everythin u may possibly wanna do and can afford to ur trans if u pull that axle it will make u happier with ur car and urself in the long run. My .02.

Ah ok, now I know what he meant. But yeah, richard did include the bearing .

As for leaving in the axle, he was referring to only replacing the joint, not the complete axle.

Ok, now I gotta find the right tools for draining the fluid first :P.

What kind of oil is recommended for the tranny? 75w90?

Yep, 75w90 is fine to use.
