1994 G20 Won't start - Starter works fine.
Hey guys, I have a problem that has me completely stumped. My 94 G20(sr20de) was in perfect running condition, and now it suddenly will not start. When trying to start, I can hear the starter engaging and spinning but nothing else. I am very lost at this point, and I don't know where to turn next. I know that the battery is fine and the starter is fine. After that I am lost. Does anyone have any ideas of where to turn next, before I have to start just randomly replacing everything that could be an issue?

It sounds like the solenoid that pushes the starter gear out is not working?
The starter whirs and spins very quickly, but sounds like it's not engaging the flywheel?

Starter is in working order.
Engine is getting fuel.
Engine is getting spark.

Car now cranks, but still does not start.

With that info, does anyone have any suggestions?

My 1991 has been troublesome starting twice over the last year. If you can, you might try to jump it from another car or try a push start (get it moving and put it in gear, then let the clutch out momentarily to turn the motor over (with the key in the "On" position), and push the clutch back in to let the car run. For me, in both instances, there was lots of light colored smoke and the engine ran rough for a few minutes after starting.

I do not know why my car did this, maybe flooding, but it happened twice.

If flooded, depress the gas pedal to the floor, and crank the motor over as if trying to start it. Having the pedal depressed to WOT sends a "clear flood" signal to the ECU and disables the injectors, while pushing fuel out of the combustion chamber and into the exhaust.

Do this for around 10 seconds and then try to start the car normally. If it fails to start, but acts like it's trying to start, you may want to check plugs for fouling. If they're dry and clean, check your fuel pump and listen for priming. If it's priming, you'll need to do an injector test to see if they're firing.

Even easier, either use Tek's method or just unplug the injector harness from the main one and crank it over and just push the gas out of the cylinder that way.

I tried TeKKie's method and the car is fixed! The car has been down for two weeks because of this and did not start over this entire period. I replaced the starter and the car began to crank normally but still would not start. After reading TeKKie's post, I depressed the gas pedal and the car instantly started. Now I just need to figure out what caused the problem in the first place, but the car runs and drives great now! Thanks for all the help guys. The car would still be out of commission if it wasn't for this post!
