I thought I would share some info that might help , my family has a pretty big relationship with certain casinos ... discount etc... I can find out what kind of group discounts I can get us and details of how It will work for Vegas and look for the cheapest price for our group

I've always viewed SERCA as an obsticle to our forum community coming together rather than a help. Many of us in the SE have purposely not joined SERCA for a variety of reasons and don't feel they speak for us. Having said that, I'll attend their convention in GA if actually comes together. Moving forward, I think we have an opportunity with the new forum home to make our own plans for a convention. The only reason the SERCA convention is the national SE-R community's convention is by default. There has really has been no alternative up to this point. Quite simply the annual SERCA convention was better than nothing.

Over the years discussions like this always seem to get stalled when no one steps up. Instead of trying to organize a massive event, I think it may be useful to start off with a more basic event and build up from there. SOFL has demonstrated over the years that they're able to organize statewide events with impressive turnout. Perhaps that could be used as a basis for an event with a broader scope?

As our cars age and are slowly taken off the streets, it will become harder and harder to generate interest in a national convention. Since I don't see the South East's attitude towards SERCA ever changing (it hasn't for the 12 years I've been watching), and SERCA is only a portion of the online SE-R forum community, I think it's logical to work towards a broader sr20-forum convention.

A Man who understands. The guys have had a monopoly on the SR20forum and have not been fare with there actions. They have been very biased towards where they held the convention.

New Forum, New Leaders and new convention run by people who are more group oriented. The Comunistic crap has to stop.

With a FL convention I also think that it will blow out any SERCA Convention. These guys have patiently waited and it can be done.

I will trust any organizer that can secure a track, including securing the money it takes.

And drag strips don't count.

To my mind, a HPDE would be nice to include and does give a convention a good atmosphere and focal event. However, especially for our first forum convention, I hardly think it should be considered a requirement. The lack of a HPDE wouldn't deter me from attending the forum's 1st convention, especially when there are cheaper and easier to produce focal events such as a drag contest or car show.

If we're going to avoid the pitfalls of past attempts I think we need to focus on the basic reasons we want to have a convention before we get bogged down in expensive and complicated main events. At least to my mind, the main reason behind any national convention is that it is first and formost a social event. Any one of us can attend a local or regional HPDE, AutoX, SCCA/NASA event, car show, or drag event. Isn't the reason most of us are interested in car specific events like a national convention because we want to meet up with owners who share our passion and interests... to meet up with old friends and put faces to new ones? All the window dressing that goes along with that (show n shine, HPDE, sponsors, ect)... aren't they really just there to make the event more interesting?

When I was still in FL I offered to help with a SERCA convention hosted in FL and we were shot down. I think it should have been allowed regardless if any of us were members or regardless if any of us were able to attend a convention or not prior to. I for one never went to a convention due to the lack of funds. I guess thats not a good enough reason.

There is nothing that says another form of a convention is prohibited. It just take dedication from a few who would be willing to host/set up one.


Just to give an example. While in FL myself along with 4 other guys set up a Nissan meet that was hands down probably the largest Nissan meet ever held on the East Coast. We had some sponsors and we all had alot of donations. The meet turned out to be a 100% success. So yes I know another method of a nation wide SE-R meet can be easily set up as long as the people in charge are dedicated.

FL meet back in 04 if my mind serves me correct. Over 300 cars. It was a beautiful site. SE-R's, 240's, Maximas, G35's, 510's ect.................. It was awesome.

The HPDE is what separates the "goes" from the "shows".

And I can only speak for myself but most of us only go to an HPDE when its with the convention. My area doesn't have any tracks within a 4-hour drive.

To me a "convention" without a track day is just a long "meet" and car show. And the track event has always been the heart of our national convention. It's been much more than window dressing.

The memories still remain.
