There has never been a conspiracy against Florida. I can't recall anyone saying that they wouldn't go to a convention if it were held in Florida. The ONLY reason that there has never been a convention held in Florida is the NOBODY THERE HAS EVER STEPPED UP TO THE PLATE AND PUT A PLAN TOGETHER. Its also funny how the people who are complaining the most have never even been to a convention...

That is not ture bro. We had a few people that were willing to step up but we were not given a chance. Hell I for one have organized many events.

When we brought the idea to the table a while back we were shot down. Because we didn't have any SERCA members. We then asked what do we get out of being members and there was nothing to be said. Also SERCA stopped taking memberships.

As for not attending a convention. I will agree not to many people from FL went. I know Will and some others went. Hey good for them. I for one could never attend due to finances and lack of time to go. Now what does that matter? I am for one am all about the community and I am willing to help out as much as I can but, because I could not attend a convention I should be pushed away? How is that fair? Its not. Plain and simple.

Regardless I am not in FL anymore but, it would be very damn cool to have a convention there. I promise you it will blow away any other convention when it comes to attendance and parcipitation.

Yes I complain a bit even though I have never gone to one. I am a member of this community and I have put alot into it in certain ways. So I should have a right to voice.

I for one wanted to get involved. I know Serban as well as Andreas at one time were very interested in helping as well as a few others. It could have easily been covered. The people were not the issue. We got shot donw before we could say who wanted to set it up.

I would have to dig up the post on the sr20forum. I forgot who mentioned bringing it to FL. The first thing said was we had no SERCA members. Then the whole none of you guys ever attend thing popped up. So that was it. It is truly a dead horse now.

I would like to eventually attend a convention. I know it would be fun to catch up with some people and match faces with names.

The future convention locations have historically been decided at the current convention. The people who want to be in the running for hosting the next one put plans together and present it to people (campaigning in a way). If the majority agree then thats where the next one takes place.

Most of the people who go to the convention are not SERCA members. Except for the conventions SERCA is pretty much dead. There is a good reason why SERCA hosts the convention however. SERCA is a legitimate non-profit corp registered with the IRS and has the ability to take in all the money into it bank account and then write 'company' checks to pay for the track, picnic, tshirts, etc. The money involved in a convention could almost buy a (cheap) new car. Thats not the kind of money that private people should need to handle. For example, take some of the group deals on the forum that have gone sour over the years. I don't know if I would trust anyone with that kind of scratch.

I'd love to attend a convention in Florida, especially in the spring or fall when the weather here is shlt.

I do remember that now. That was an unfair situation when nobody was allowed to become a new member..

So is SERCA a legal entity like a non-profit organization? (oops, my question was answered above)

I am sure that there is alot involved. Our Nissan meet here in FL was stated as somthing simple and at the end of it all alot of money was tied up into setting it up. Imagine catering for over 600 people and finding a spot big enough to hold them all. Hell we even had the cops involved due to the amount of people who showed up. It was crazy.

I am not knocking the convention at all. What those people do to set it up is amazing. I know first hand it is alot of work.

Now that I am here in OH maybe we can a get a group of guys in the area to help host a convention near by. We know we have the resources here.

Yeah that would be pretty cool. We could do the track event at BeaveRun.

Or Mid-Ohio.

If we set up a small spring meet maybe we can sit down and talk out some details.
