Then why doesn't the CV joint case move too? It should be attached to that shaft.

driving on the highway it felt like it was loosing power and bucking at lower revs in 5th, dropped to 4th and it was the same, the gears have become very noisey

The fluid didn't cause any trouble that wouldn't have happened anyway.
I think I hear the same sounds you hear except mainly in second gear. It's like gear whine. I've had it ever since I removed things in the engine bay that hid the noise. If it's gear whine and it's not too loud I wouldn't worry about it either except check to make sure you got the axle in all the way. There are two "humps" you have to get that axle past.

The bucking and clunking is the cause for worry, and I can't say if it's the diff or something else in the transmission. I would recommend you take the transmission apart. Something isn't right I don't think.

the gold dust seal is right up against the seal in the box, so Im pretty sure the shaft cannot go in any further....

will remove it and refit it, when I get a chance, just done 90 or so miles in it had no choice

yeah by the sound of it im guessing a problem with the gears, If its the same way in all gears its more than likely either a crapload of metal shavings or a busted final drive gear.

That gold dust seal doesn't exist on our driver's side (your passenger's side) axle. We only have it on the other side. Are we talking about the same side here?

would that happen suddenly or gradually as the box was fine before the clutch went....

have drained the oil twice, no substancial shavings to speak of, it selects gear fine and it only did the bucking once, I pulled over and stopped when that happened didnt happen again though...

Im pretty sure I have seals the dust seals on both of my shafts...

would I be able to get a picture showing the shaft where it meets the box, showing how far in it is.. on an LSD box...

i also have a whine in 2nd gear, but it sounds like its commin from the passenger side. i thought it might be the belts or something (cause of a leaky PS hose which i recently changed) honeslty it was much louder while the hose was leakin then it was before or even now, But i think it maybe the tranny.. hence why its mostley only in 2nd gear..

i've used mt90 for a while now an it works better then anything else i've used.. i tryed the valveoline an it maybe my lsd chirp so bad.. i did try the pennzoil stuff once, dont think it was the syncromesh tho.. it wasnt nearly as bad as the valvoline.. i also dont think the mt90 caused your problems.. you say you replaced the axle? what kind did you use? cheap aftermarket axles usualy SUCK..
