To set it into timing mode, unplug the TPS, the RPM's should drop, then get in the car and rev up the car to 3k RPM 3 times. Afterwards check your timing.

Warm the engine up (must be at least 140F). Turn engine OFF!. Disconnect the TPS. Restart, and then check and set the timing. Turn engine off. Reconnect TPS.

If your neutral switch is disconnected/not working, you will never get into "set timing" mode. If this is the case, ground the neutral switch wire from ECU pin 35 while setting the timing.

That's freaking awsome to find out Dave!! I've been fighting my Timmy for months, spending lots of money on parts and such! Are there any other sensors like rear o2 sensor(obd2) that will not allow it to go into timing mode?thanks for your post!

you should look to see if your knock sensor is working correctly..

No, that's it, TPS disconnected, CLT > 140F, trans in neutral. With the TPS disconnected, it won't set the DTC unless you put it in gear and go over 2.5mph.

Next, with the '93, that should be a highport engine (unless it was swapped for a lowport for some reason), and they are notorious for having jumpy timing/idle. One of the things you can do if after you've done the rain dance, unplug the brown connector off the IACV harness. This may help stabilize the timing; set your timing, rain dance to lock timing, plug everything back in and you should be good to go.

actually late production 93's, like REALLY late production, had the lowport...

maybe the last 20% for the year or something...

94 B13's were the only ones with the Lowport SR20. I have had a few of those.

Need a new pulley that won't ever separate on you?
Shameless plug: http://www.sr20-forum.com/naturally-aspirated/24917-sale-gspec-aluminum-crank-pulley.html

not to toot my own horn but

TTTOOOOTTTTTT TTTTOOOOOTTTTTT!!!!!!!

glad you figured it out. Make sure you grab a new crank seal while you are at it and if you didn't know DO NOT pop the pulley off using the threaded holes. That is unless you want to break your timing cover.
