Wheel bearing
My car is making a whining noise at 40mph upwards from the rear wheel. Im sure its the bearing. How hard a job is it to do, change a rear wheel bearing on an Almera 1997 GTI?

If u get a second hand one from a scrap yard you will get what you need, so if it's pressed bearing they give you the whole thingie with the thin metal plate that protects the rear brake disc.

It also could be you will just get the 4 bolts where you place your rim on, then you are in luck, just remove the brake, remove the cap, loosen that 32mm bolt and it should fall off.

In the first case you will need to realign the car.

I have no Almera GTI so that's why I tell you how I would solve this, first get the part second hand and from there you will know what to do.

Rears are really easy, we are talking 30-60 minute job. The hardest part is just trying to press the new studs into the new hub. I had to get them part way in then use the lug nuts to draw them through.

They are pre-pressed assemblies, you don't have to worry about pressing in a new bearing.

Edit: I don't have a GTI, never mind that last bit. =)
