8.5:1 CR in N/A motor. Possible?
See topictitle.

The CR in my VE is too high for regular pump gas (13.5:1). So I need to change the pistons. But, I'm also planning to go turbo in the future. So I was thinking putting in 8.5:1 CR pistons in it. But I need to know if I can run it, as long as I don't have a turbo.
Cause I'd rather not change the pistons, drive around a bit, and then change the pistons again.

Any ideas?

it will run, it will just lack power.

Okay, could you give me a guesstimate on powerloss over a stock SR20VE (bout 187)?

motor will be slow until it has a turbo strapped to it.

SR20DE slow? Or a little faster?

It will be slower then a stock DE. Stock DE is 9.5:1. That is indeed some high compression on the VE .

I will say you will loose some pep down low even with turbo. How much boost are you planning on running? Might be no reason for you to even go to 8.5.

It wont be as bad as some may think. With your VE head the compression will be a little over 9:1.
