Thread: 11.75" rotor upgrade worth the hassle / money?

I want to upgrade my brake system (finally) so my idea was to get a good set of pads, braided lines, and the rotor upgrade from gspec since I already have NX front brakes.

I would assume that these rotors would get rid of the heat from the brakes better then stock rotors, and at the same time look good behind my wheels.

Is there going to be any decreased performance in the brakes due to a heavier rotor while using the same size caliper?

More then anything I just want opinions on this setup, and whether its a complete waste or not?

Keep in mind this is just a street vehicle with some spirited driving here and there. I don't know if that warrants a $1000 babk.

My only prob with it is , I really like my B14 wheels adn they wont fit under the 11.75 rotors from what I understand

Here is my thoughts:

11.75" Fastbrakes BABK: absolutely awesome on track. I loved my setup when I had it. The problem is very few 15" wheels fit without massive spacers. That makes it a major PITA in my opinion. If I did it again, I would probably run the 11" Fastbrakes BABK setup for slightly more flexibly on wheel selection.

11.75" AD22 setup: I think it is cool, but it doesn't do anything for me. The benefit of the Fastbrakes kit is Wilwood calipers (huge pad selection available just about anywhere) and cheap replacement rotors (once again available just about anywhere). Plus the Fastbrakes setup weighed less than a similar AD22 standard setup (I know from mailing out both setups). The brakes look massive, but for the wheel selection issues, I wouldn't run this setup for a mostly street driven car.

In short, if you want an upgrade I would go with the Fastbrakes 11" kit. The rotors are re-drilled Corrado rotors or something, but the Wilwoods are nice. My car was built mostly for track usage.

I agree with Fosters, however you said you're not willing to lay down the money for the Wilwood calipers so my advice would be that if you already have 16" or 17" wheels then go for it. If not, you'll need to factor in the price of new wheels into your purchase as I wouldn't even try to fit the 11.7" kit in a 15" wheel. It can be done but only with big dollar wheels and/or massive spacers.

If all you do is 'spirited driving' then I wouldn't spend the money on the Wilwoods, or even a larger rotor for that matter. When you get home from work one day, try to measure the temperature of your brakes, and then compare that to when you're done doing some 'spirited driving'. A larger rotor is going to help get rid of heat from your brakes, so you need to determine is you really need that.

And as far as it looking good behind the wheels, IMO it's always the caliper that looks good, a small caliper and big rotor just looks disproportionate to me. =/

Your gonna add more rotation mass so you will loose some power as well

I would *think* that this all-Nissan upgrade would even survive some road course work with the right pads.

To my knowledge, I have never "faded" my stock brakes on the streets. I have seriously nice pads (Carbotech, before Matt got fired), but otherwise my system is currently stock. I don't *think* I faded my brakes at Roebling Road either, although that may be due to my slow-ass (beginner) lap times.

When I can afford to do so, I am going with the all-Nissan system as listed above. I cannot justify or "warrant a $1000 babk" when my primary mission is daily driving, with a road coarse or three per year.

So the rotor upgrade is a waste performance wise, and it might look a bit funny too. That's kinda what I was thinkin' just wanted to hear opinions.

The NX rotor seems up to task for street work considering it has a pretty decent thickness, so I doubt the heat dissipation of the bigger rotor would make much difference.

I forgot the part where you said you already have NX front brakes.
I would stick with those and only think about upgrading if you find yourself experiencing fade with good fluid and no air in the system.

This is the setup im running with ATE Super Blue DOT 4 Racing Brake Fluid w/ hawk pads. I have not had brake fade yet..Imo everthing else is an overkill for street use.
