instrument panel causing car not to start?
hi guys,
really need your help here. ca is a nissan primera p11.
I just tried fix my tach meter or try to find where the problem is.
My tach goes crazy from just turning the car on to ignition. and once started it reads pretty high in the revs like at 4. the cluster has never been touched other than changing the color of the bulbs about 3 years ago. never had a problem until 6 months ago.

I took out the cluster and tested the voltage with a tester to make sure it is reading the same as the ecu which it is. voltage is not going all over the place. so wiring and sensor is fine. i then unplugged the 3 plugs from the cluster to check the connections. after all that i put everything back in but now the car does not start. the ingnition turns on but nothing happens. just clicks.

is there something that needs to be done that i may have missed out?

Have you checked / recharged your battery?

Check your battery; clean the terminals, posts, and charge it. As far as the tach is concerned, it might be bad. Try getting a replacement.

The battery is brand new. and charged.
I got it to start once when i removed the panel, but as i installed it back it did the same thing and doesnt want to roll.

I tried jumping the car with my dads but did the same click click. driving me insane now because i need the car like tomorrow for work and what not.

thanks for the suggestions. I wasnt thinkin it could be the battery. was worth a shot. but that wasnt it.

check the starter then. It's possible that i froze up on you. Jack up the car, set it on jack stands, get underneath it and smack it with a hammer. It's easier if you have someone in tryint to start it while you smack it. If it frees up and starts then you know that it's the starter.

auto or manual? might be a inhibator switch, or can you hear the clicking coming from the starter? as for the tacho my guess is that it has a dry solder joint

I don't think it it the starter. I just went to try a couple of thing again. I got it to start again but only once. I do believe something is wrong with the cluster. I did notice that it started when the check lights that come on during the ignition were on.
Did not notice this last time. But the check lights does not turn on all the time, and not all the time when they turn on will it start.

you should be able to start your car without a cluster, give the starter a smack and see if it starts. also when you jump start your car disconnect your battery cause if it has a shorted cell it'll drain the jumper battery and still not get enough to start it or what size jumper cable are they cause your'll need some good sized one like 32mm ones at least sr's need alot of cca to start
