^ exactly.

i suppose if i purchased a car with the gear shift like you guys are describing but i couldnt see changing the way a b13 is shifter wise.

ive seen cobra's thousands of times, but im trying to and cant seem to picture how their shifters were.

I don't know about the 289s (probably the same) but the 427s had the transmission so far back that the shift lever came up out of the center tunnel behind your elbow. The shift lever is bent and angled towards the firewall and steering wheel with some real length to it.

I just emailed FLP to see if they would be interested in making a shifter like this for us. Lets see how this turns out

Would anyone be interested if they were down to make this for us?

I would definitely be interested, be sure and ask about the two piece design so it can be swiveled toward the wheel!

Personally I think the stock B14 shifter and knob are plenty high. Actually, too high for my taste. I need to install my B&M short shifter.

we will continue to due so for as long as cars have manual trannys.

dude. the object is not to get the shifter "millia seconds" away from the wheel..........its that fact that every short shifter is made for fan boys that want the knob .5inch below the god damn console and 1 it looks ****in gay and 2 raising it up a touch wouldnt be bad.

this may or may not prove my point with your answers.

when you say its to high are you talking about the way it looks? would you still buy the B&M if there was a shifter made that stayed the stock height (or possibly 1 to 2 inches longer) with the EXACT same short distance between gears?

i challenge anyone here to find a picture of a REAL race car with a shift knob buried balls deep into the console. if someone posts a pic of some freakin 240 they saw at race wars, so help me god.

i have driven a b13 with a B&M and it was the worst experience of my life behind the wheel of a manual trans equipped car with a claimed quality aftermarket shifter. it is very notchy and the extra effort needed to change the gears negates the purpose of a short shifter because it takes the same amount of time to change gears.

I LOVE YOU MAN!!

Ive driven a B14 with a B&M and I hated it. I cant imagine driving that on an autocross course.

So true! Lets get this rolling, hopefully FLP will take us under their wing and help us out, they make great parts. Function OVER form gentlemen.

A long time ago I started seeing function as form, and this shifter is a prime example, I laugh every time I see those trying to cut their shifter down, it is a prime display of lack of knowledge and childlike appreciation for something they don't understand. As for those who prefer the stock shifter maybe try out a good flp shifter, it is truly a great experience.

The idea is to limit the time you have to spend with your hand off the wheel, and limit the time it takes to perform a shift. People cite WRC cars as a good example of why this positioning is important.

Many RWD sports cars have a high center console with a shift lever close to the wheel that gets the desired results. Notably the recent FWD Honda Civic Si hatchback had a shift lever very close to the steering wheel which is rare in FWD "economy" car.

Almost all other cars with manual transmissions have a large distance between the shift lever and the steering wheel, so aftermarket products have emerged to fill that niché. How they look on said cars is left up to you to decide.

The EP3 Civic Si shifter is great imo. Its about two hands distance between the wheel and shifter. The problem is ham-fisted people tend to shift too fast and it can lead to messed up gears especially 2nd and 3rd.

How about this?

Exactly. I like the B&M in my SE-R but the stocker is longer to keep the distance to the wheel shorter. I do like the stock shifter though.
